Assign customers to your locations, and products to customers. This defines which of your products are available to which customers at designated locations.
Page 110 - Assign Locations and Products to Customers in the app enables planners to identify customer locations and assign products to those customer locations.
Prerequisites
A workspace administrator has set up the production planning model. This model must include products, customers and customer locations, used on this page. If not, manually create the products, customers and customer locations.
Add a new customer
Add a customer location
Note: If you need to make corrections to these entries, please contact your workspace administrator.
Assign customers to locations
This grid indicates which locations are customers active at. To create a customer-location combination:
- Find the customer-location combination on the grid.
- Select Create customer at location? checkbox for that combination.
- Select the Process Master Data Changes action button on the left hand side to apply the change.
Note: You can unassign customers from locations following the process above for existing assignments. However, this will automatically unassign products from any customer locations they have been assigned to.
Assign products to customers at locations
This grid indicates that specific products are sold at selected customer locations. To make products available to specific customer-location combinations:
- On the grid, find the product you wish to assign. Each product displays a line for each existing customer-location combination.
- Select the Sold to customer? checkbox for that combination to make the assignment.
- Select the Process Master Data Changes action button on the left hand side to apply the change.
Note: You can unassign products following the process above for existing assignments.
Example
This provides an example for a Production Planner to carry out the processes n 110 - Assign Locations and Products to Customers.
Dairy business scenario
You are the production planner at a dairy business in the USA. Your business sources and produces dairy products in California, and makes use of a network of distribution centers across the state:
- Your business produces dairy products such as milk, cheese, and whey protein.
- Your customers are California-based businesses that deal in dairy products: DairyWorld, Natty Neighborhood Stores, United Grocers, and Whole-eats.
- Your customer's shops are located at Burbank, Panorama City, Hawthorne and West Hills.
You source raw milk from different local and non-local producers, as well as producing milk in self-owned farms. The raw milk is processed into pasteurized, skimmed and full-fat milk, different cheeses, cream, yogurt, and butter. A by-product of your manufacturing process is whey protein that's sought out for its nutritional and dietary qualities.
Set up products, processes, plants and distribution centers
During the app setup the products will have been created for you. If not, you must create the products themselves. Follow the Add a new customer and Add a new Customer location steps above, and add:
Customer | Location | Create customer at location? |
Natty Neighborhood Stores | Burbank
Whole-eats | Panorama City
United Grocers | Hawthorne
DairyWorld | West Hills | |
Assign products to customer locations
Assign your products to the customer-location combinations. In the Assign Products to Customers at Locations grid, check the Sold to customer? checkbox for each product available at each customer location. Consider this:
- DairyWorld carries your entire product line in all their stores.
- United Grocers and Natty Neighborhood Stores lack the bulk refrigeration facilities to carry anything but your cheddar cheese.
- Whole-eats is interested only in your whey protein and milk.
- United Grocers has opened a brand new facility at Panorama City with bulk refrigeration that allows them to carry your milk produce.
This would become:
Product | Customers | Sold at Location? |
Cheddar cheese | DairyWorld Burbank
DairyWorld Hawthorne | | |
